What is The White House Worth?

shutterstock_114757342If you had several million burning in your pocket and were itching to make a grand real estate purchase, what could it buy you? Well, according to Zillow, $385 Million is just enough to buy The White House. Side note: Both candidates spent roughly $1 Billion in the 2012 election with the hopes of calling the White House their home.

The White House, at roughly 55,000 square-feet comes out to about $7,000 a square-foot which is slightly higher than values in Monaco, the most expensive real estate market in the world with an average of $6,200 a square-foot. To put that in perspective, $1M would buy you 160 square-feet of living space also known as a closet.

I’m guessing the historical nature of The White House as well as the 18 acres of fenced land adds to it’s value. The 6-floor, 132-room property features 3 kitchens, 16 bedrooms and 35 baths. The construction of the White House started in 1792 and it was first occupied by President John Adams in 1800. The total cost was $232,372.

The White House is obviously not for sale but it it were, you’d want to act fast. According to Zillow, the White House has appreciated $2.8 Million over the last 30 days. Then again, we all know how accurate Zillow can be.
