Segment 1b: Heritage Road to Olympic Parkway

Expect Impacts to East Palomar Street Intersections with Santa Cora Avenue and Vista Sonrisa Avenue, December 27-30

The intersections of Santa Cora and Vista Sonrisa avenues with East Palomar Street will be closed to through traffic due to construction activities between Tuesday, December 27, and Friday, December 30. Crews will be demolishing and excavating the existing pavement and then completing paving through the intersection for the new transit guideway.

To accommodate construction, the left turn lanes will be closed 24 hours a day in all directions along East Palomar Street at Santa Cora and Vista Sonrisa Avenues. Drivers will not be able to make a left hand turn to or from East Palomar Street. Detour signage will be in place directing vehicles to Santa Rosa Drive and La Media Road where drivers can make legal u-turns as needed.

Additional lane closures are not anticipated however drivers should expect traffic congestion and delays. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible and give themselves extra time.


Segment 2: Olympic Parkway to Birch Road

Construction Activities: Magdalena Avenue to State Route 125

Crews have begun working in the greenbelt area between the Monet and Treviana properties from Magdalena Avenue to State Route 125 (SR 125). Beginning the week of December 19, crews will be drilling foundations for the temporary sound blanket that will be installed in place for the duration of the transit guideway work. Sound blanket installation is anticipated to begin in late December. This work will take place during the daytime, Monday to Friday. Nearby residents can expect some noise, dust, and possible vibrations from this work.

Monet HOA resident parking on Impressionist Drive has been restricted during construction. Monet HOA permit holders should now park their vehicles at the temporary parking lot located between View Park Way and Magdalena Avenue. All vehicles must display a parking permit. Permits will be enforced by the Chula Vista Police Department at all times.

Preliminary construction activities also will begin across SR 125, including temporary striping, installing temporary concrete barriers (k-rail), and preparing excavations for the bridge foundations in the expressway median.


What to Expect During Construction:

  • Motorists can expect temporary lane closures, detours, reduced lane widths, and construction vehicles traveling in and out of the median along the construction area.
  •  Nearby residents can expect intermittent construction noise and dust during work hours.
  • Walking and biking paths adjacent to the work area may be closed periodically.
  • On-street parking along East Palomar Street and Impressionist Drive may be restricted.
  • The latest MTS route and detour information is available here.
  • The majority of construction activities will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please note, construction schedules are subject to change.
  • Slow for the cone zone! Speed limit reduced from 35 miles per hour (mph) to 25 mph in construction areas. Violators are subject to citation.
  •  Crews will take all reasonable steps to minimize impacts to nearby residents, businesses, and commuters. We appreciate your patience during construction.
