Drones in Real Estate. Good or Bad?

The use of drones has become common practice in the high end real estate market to showcase properties from nearly every vantage point to prospective buyers online. As the Times video points out, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) currently prohibits the use of drones for commercial purposes such as the use by real estate professionals to market properties. In fact, the National Association of REALTORS® “…recommends that its members not utilize this technology for any purpose related to selling property.”

The FAA is expected to implement clear-cut regulations for the commercial use of drones by end of 2015. Until then, drone operators and real estate professionals may face fines for such use. Additionally, the issue of liability is in questions, should damage or even injury occur as a result of such use. By operating or even hiring drone operators, Realtors may be placing their clients in a risky situation without fully explaining the risks involved for this cutting edge marketing.
